It is recommended that before using a candle, you should trim the wick to a quarter of an inch. This will keep the flame from getting too big and burning too fast. Watch where you place your candle. Do not set it on any kind of surface that can easily be knocked over by a kid or a pet. Also, make sure to not have it near anything flammable such as curtains or blankets.
The biggest reminder is to never leave a burning candle unattended. If you leave the room, blow it out. And never fall asleep with a candle burning. Also, if you light your candle with a match, dispose of the match properly. Never toss a warm match into a trash can as it might ignite other materials. Allow it to cool on a heat-resistant surface, or run it under water before disposing of it. And never throw matches into your toilet, as some people do, because that is bad for your plumbing.
