Building a playground in your backyard is a great idea. Just be sure to follow safety guidelines when doing so. You don’t want your kids or their friends to get injured. You can find many guidelines online. Here are a few of those safety reminders.

First of all, make safety checks a regular thing. Even if you build everything great from the beginning, there is maintenance required along the way. Parts can get rusty or loosened. If there is any wear or deterioration, make the repairs quickly.

Make sure the equipment is properly anchored down so there are no tipping accidents. Use rubber mats or a few inches of wood chips, sand, or rubber mulch, to provide a soft landing for kids when jumping (or falling) off swings or slides. Wherever there are pinch points, cover them up, as well as any sharp edges of the equipment, to ensure there will be no squished fingers or cuts. Remember that in the summer, the sun can really heat up slides and swings, especially those made from metal or plastic. Check them before your kids use them to make sure they don’t get burned.
